Care Guide

Every Caromiki garment ships with its own care label, and that label is the definitive guide for cleaning, drying, and pressing your specific piece. The general guidance below applies to the types of formal and embellished garments this store carries, but it never overrides the instructions attached to your item. If the label and this page seem to disagree, follow the label.

Before You Do Anything: Locate Your Garment's Own Instructions

Check the care label sewn into the inner seam or waistband of your dress or set. If a product page listed specific cleaning guidance at the time of purchase, treat that as equally authoritative. When no label or page instruction exists for a particular piece, contact us before attempting any cleaning method.

Protecting Embellished and Layered Details

Many Caromiki gowns incorporate hand-placed beading, sequins, crystal accents, 3D floral appliques, or layered tulle overlays. These elements are more fragile than the base fabric and require different handling:

  • Beads and sequins: Avoid pulling, rubbing, or pressing directly against them. If a single bead or sequin loosens, do not tug it free—set the garment aside and reach out to us.
  • 3D appliques and embroidery: Keep these areas away from rough surfaces, jewelry clasps, and bag straps that could snag threads.
  • Tulle and sheer layers: They catch on velcro, belt buckles, and uneven furniture. Zip up or fasten any nearby closures before dressing.
  • Pleats: Do not press flat or fold along new lines. If a pleated section creases during storage, hang the garment in a steamy bathroom and let the moisture relax the fold naturally rather than applying an iron.

After an Event: Simple Maintenance

Once you remove your gown or set, give it a few minutes to air out before storing. Check for any new snags, loose threads, or displaced embellishments while the fabric is still flat and easy to inspect. Light surface dust can be removed by gently brushing with a clean, dry, soft-bristled garment brush—brush in the direction of the weave, not against it.

If You Notice a Spot or Spill

Blot (do not rub) fresh liquid with a clean, white, absorbent cloth to lift excess moisture before it sets. Do not apply water, stain removers, alcohol, or any solvent to an unknown stain on an embellished or lined garment. If the spot persists after blotting, or if it involves oil, ink, or a colored liquid that has transferred to the lining, stop and consult a professional cleaner experienced with formalwear.

Storing Between Wears

  • Hang on a padded or wide-shoulder hanger to avoid shoulder bumps and strap distortion on spaghetti-strap or halter styles.
  • Keep garments in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight, which can fade dyes and weaken fibers over time.
  • If your gown came with a breathable garment bag, use it. Avoid sealed plastic for long-term storage, as trapped moisture can affect lining and embellishments.
  • Do not compress beaded or tulle sections under other items in a closet.

When to Hand It Off to a Professional

A qualified dry cleaner or formalwear specialist is the right choice when:

  • The care label specifies a method you are not equipped to perform at home.
  • A stain has set, spread, or involves multiple fabric layers.
  • Multiple beads, sequins, or applique elements have come loose.
  • The lining has shifted, torn, or separated from the outer layer.

Always inform the cleaner about embellishments and lining materials before they begin.
